With the decline in XP of late I have been trying out a few things to get more bang for the buck. But being a little destroyer (Z31) it can be hard at times.

If you stick to DD vs DD, then you fail to get the bigger XP of banging on the CL's, CA's and CV's. Even in 15v15 all DD games, I'd have to say I averaged 250-300xp per game. Thats a very slow grind to level up.

But then in the bigger games, you can't even get to the bigger ships because first you have to dodge the Torp walls and waves of DD's. And heck, if your just gonna fight the DD's, goto a DDvDD game. Here you want the big boys. But it is kind of rare to break through and get any real damage done before your pounced on by numerous ships.

So what do you do? Screwed both ways right? Well, yes actually, but there is a third way that I now use almost all the time. First, only play games that have CV's. Look for the CV with the weakest defense and park next to him. Then just follow that CV around, don't go off to battle :nono: , it will come to you soon enough.

Now, it may be kind of slow at the start, but you are WAY better off doing it this way. First, I've been racking up AAA kills left and right. And thats just with the ships Auto AA, not me firing. Then more often than not, a few break though ships will come your way. And no matter it be a DD or a CA, you have the advantage. Why you ask? Well thanks for asking. Why is because people are GREEDY! They don't want the measly points of a Destroyer when a BIG FAT CV is right next to him. So you can stand toe-toe with a CA pounding away at him. And since they are so concentrated on the CV, send a few torps up his pipe as well. Oh, the other benifit here, most break thoughs occur as single ships, so you only have to fight one ship at a time instead of 4-6.

If you talk to the CV and tell him whats going on, they love it too. You give them more time to evade torps as more often than not you force the TW's to launch early (BTW I always stay between the CV and the threat). And the extra AA you give the carrier is appreciated too. Oh, and ALWAYS holler in chat TORPS if you see them inbound.

Anyways, by playing this tactic of late I have been averaging 800-1200xp PER GAME  ! That is HUGE. Also, my cash has been piling up. It's clearly an advantage to be able to pound the bigger ships on a more consistant basis.

Now there is a down side. If you are on a team that dominates early and no ships break though, well you get 50-75xp? You can help prevent this by not getting on the stacked team, but on the one that you think will lose. I mean with the team win now being what 5% add on, is 5% of 75 better than 1200? And you still might get then win, cause with that CV alive, he is knocking off the other big boys.

Anyways, I hope this helps you guys out, OH, and before you start playing like this, read Papajohns post about how to escort a CV (which is what gave me this idea in the first place).

I can go to the shadow area, when a cv is present, and HEAR the planes taking off and landing. Thus locating where the airops are taking place. This has it's rewards. I single-handedly took piroman3k's CV out and got over 1200XP for that. And he was guarded by 5 dd's True to what darokin said,I concentrated on the CV only ,and ignored the dd's. Also banged the first BB at Vancouver for over 975XP, but didn't get the kill.Somebody else had that "Last Shot".

... i'll let you know that if i get in range of a cv... its escorts die first... so i can go after it without any distractions...

I agree to stay with the CV, I have done it and it works. But if you want huge points attack the CV and escorts. Ex: last night myself (DDX-no torps-lvl 30) and another DDX attacked 2 CV's and its escort (3 DD's). We sunk all 5 and I received 2195 exp points. Only one bad thing happened during the battle, the 3rd CV sunk me!!!!!

To receive points "Go where the CV's are"

I think this is the most frustrating part of the game. I currently have all my guys between levels 25-28 and it takes forever to get the 7000-9000 points to go up a level when you only get 200-300 pnts per game.
