View Full Version : should NF implement variable experience model (ala WoW style)

i'll explain what that means.
As it stands now, experience is gained by playing.... a lot... the more you play, the more xp you'll get.
This model favors the people who play 24x7 with no sleep and hence they rise to the top by simply playing day and night.
for those of us who has other stuff to do and can't play this all day long, that makes us the "noobs" since we dont rise in rank as fast.
in WoW (world of warcraft), they have the variable experience gain..
they model the experience gain based on a multiplier that's variable depending on how much the player plays.. If the player plays all day long, the multiplier is set at 1. But if a player hasnt played for a while..lets say 1 week, the multiplier is set around 3-4 times teh usual amount for the few hours after he logs in to play.
Hence he has the chance of coming back and try to keep up with the usual people who plays all day long.
I think this makes for a better gaming experience.
just my 2 cents.

yes its a great idea, but i can live with the current system, coz i noe som1 is higher lv than me, but i know my skills are better them, so i dont care much about level....
Dont play for level, play for fun

i could care less about lvls.... i just want bigger ships...
and that kinda blows if i cant get the big ships unless i have to put in 6 hrs everyday..
my problem lies in that with the current system, the ppl that plays all day long will get the big ships...hence leaving the rest of us behind...and as they get bigger ships and we stuck with our small ones...it becomes harder and harder for us to lvl against them...
after a while..might as well just quit, since the 6 inch guns not doing any dmg to their BB hull

I think the staff can get better graphs, but dont to much, why? because the game it's to slow at loading, and if the game dont have to much graphs like today, why need lots of virtual memory, good micro and morethings?
i dont think thats will be a good idea

My response to the 'STOP SUCKING' reply on forums and ingame: I have a life, I don't want to play NF for hours a day just to get some ship which can ruin anyones day.

tif the mod who must play several hours a day agrees, i do too. perhaps not a huge amount, but a decent multiplyer would keep it competitive and get more cl's and ca's. Somehow i dont think they are being properly tested because almost 90% of ships in battle are dd's and most are casual players who cant get that high lvl.

they should cuz i cant play too much. real experience is based on how much you learn anyways, ppl that plays 24 hrs a day may still be dumb as heck in battles and do dumbs things. so its not fair that they get better ships cuz they play alot. i took a K class down today with a DD cuz the person using the CL is clueless on how to use it :P but i dont play enough to bring pwnage[jk!] in a CL

I think this is a great idea....But once you reach a certain level (Like 50 or 60), it should reduce the ammount of multiplier
why? This allows you to get good ships, but for those who want the uber ships, you'll need to work for it,
so people who *do* spend 24/7 on it get something out of it.
While its great for the casual gamer it wont effect the power gamers ability to rise above the rest and a variable exp system would be horrible in NF unless the monetary and points systems were also changed.
Mainly because there will be alot of high level players with very poor ships and un promoted sailors, making alot more exp/creds available for power gamers.
So in the end all it does is help power gamers level faster.

You are in a big ship.

I think that is a really great idea. Your level would depend a little more on your skill and not on the hours you spend playing every day.
I also htink EXP reduce for specialized sailors should be removed. This unbalances the game, since you already need more XP to advance, reducing the XP by specializing makes advance REALLY slow.

I think the idea itself is great, however, in a game where so many things depend just on the lvl u get, like ships n guns, I dont really think its fitting.
I mean comon, if u play 6 hours per day (= a lot), and finally get that big bad BB, then thos ppl who play only a few hours per week just get the same, u just go like: Im not gonna play my arse off all week to get that when I can do it in just 1 day in the week as well....
It just elimininates the need to play more.

I think the variable exp. is a terrible idea. I mean you have to work to get your levels and that is part of the reward of playing this game. If we are going to boost exp. for players who play less then we might as well just pay for the levels. I mean hell then I dont have to play at all to get up to a higher level I can spend $500 pull my big ass BB out of the dock and suck with it. I find it ridiculous that we would consider that if you dont play you get a boost for exp.

The problem with navyfield is the grind. The constant lack of fun. This would keep it fun.
I think the new patch greatly shows how much people need and almost beg for exp. almost every person who had a chance today 'cheated' their way to get more levels...more exp......more.......everything
For some strange reason, navy field brings out the worst in us, an instinct to get better...no matter what.

I don't like the idea very much. If you play a lot, you should be rewarded. What is that? If I play 24 / 7, I'm to be punished by less xp gain? I don't see it make sense. If you play very little, you know that and you should accept you can't lvl up too fast - if you can't dedicate a lot of time to it, don't complain that you can't lvl up fast enough!
I'm one of those who can't play a lot, but I beleive in being fair. Just because I can't play a lot, doesn't mean I should be given extra modifyers to help me lvl up. Occasional bonus of varying types are ok (like free xp, etc.), but not a constant modifyer like that. Some people liek to continue playing a game because of the time involved, and the work you need to lvl up, since it's not so easy-peasy and actualyl feels rewardning and logical to invest some time, etc. But if a modifyer like this is implemented, some of those that play a lot might acutally lose interest, because now there is less of a point in playing all day, as they might as well, just stop playing for a while, and be able to lvl up witrh less time becasue of the modifyer.
I will like the idea if the modifyer is a lot smaller. 2 to 3 x modifyer is way too much, and unfair. AT MOST 2x if you haven't played for months maybe, but normally maybe from 1 to 1.5 at the most. It has to be just a good balanced number, so that playing all day will still be rewarding, but those that have little time will have bit of a break.
