note: I am posting this here first, because the people here are a bit more..how do I say...smarter then the regular navyfield forums...

Armor suggestion:

Noting the inbalance of the Q class because of armor and guns, but focusing on armor:
1) Ammount of armor able to be put on a ship
2) The british having the best armor, that is, the best armor to stop bullets
3) The british have the lightest armor.

So here is my suggestion:
1) armor weight (meaning the weight of each tenth of an inch) for each nation is the same across the board. The only thing differeing from each nation is that some nations have armor that are better at deflecting bullets
2) The ammount of armor, in tenthes of an inch, ANY ship can put on TOTAL is equal to it's DP/100.
Example: Let's say a ship has 7600 DP MAX. They can add 76 tenthes of an inch, or 7.6 inches of armor to either belt OR deck. Bulge and hull should not be changed by that.

so, any comments?

armor weight: i think this is fine as it is

armor amount: a Q has 7000 DP...7" of belt is still a lot. so even if it were implemented, it wouldn't make that much of a difference.

really? I can fit 6 inches of HEAVY german armor on my z52. I'm pretty sure it would limit it a bit.

if it really woudn't make a difference: how about (Dp/100) / 2

How can you say that armor weight is fine as it is! It's completely screwed! A ton of armor is a ton of armor no matter if made in the US, the UK, Japan, or Germany. The whole idea of having Germany have heavier armor than, lets say, the UK is ridiculous! We can probably talk all day about metal quality of the different nations, but I honestly don't think that any of us has any real metalurgic knowledge about it anyway. Lets just get rid of that idiotic difference once and for all. I mean, you still have your armor quality and your cost! Having different weights is just one of the examples on how this game overcomplicates things that should in fact be fairly straightforward.

Now, about limiting armor thickness, I'm all for that. A DD with 7" of armor? Nonsense, no country would ever make it. It's way to expensive! Probably would sink like a brick as well. DP/200 sounds pretty good as well, but maybe, specific thicknesses for specific ships would be better. Getting the real thicknesses and multiplying it by two might be interesting as well. Then, if the UK put down ships with 3.5" armor, you could have your 7" armor if you had the credits.

Anyway, something has to be done, because this armor whoring is skewing the game in a big way!
