what in the world is the point of this gun? its more than twice the weight of the 51cal and has less range, though it does have higher angle.... furthermore its not a "DP Gun" required weapon and does less damage than the 51cal, i just cant understand its purpose

It's a high-angle dual purpose version of the 6"/47.
'Dual Purpose' means can be used against air or surface targets.
Only type 'A' weapons have the 'DP Gun' requirement.

actually it has more range...max 73` or something as opposed to 30`.
high max angle = more weight as the rule, but it allows dropshots and AA capability.

Personally, I love these guns. They have awesome AA range and damage, and if you put it at 55 degrees you will see it has farther range than 5/54. However, the AP round is not near as nice as the APC for the 5/54 nor is the rate of fire, so it comes down to a personal preference. Heavy HE at the lower ranges seem to do some decent damage, so you really need to play around with it to get the feel for it.

um willard i tested their range... so close to identical it doesnt matter.... 5 inch 54 cal is better except for AA capacity... in which the 6 inch 47 cal is superior....
