Anybody else think it would be a good idea? Or at least convince TeamNF to switch their boards over to someything like this?

Cause, frankly, the HTML way they do it is just begging for explotation.

they cant..cuz they have a backend on their forum that ties in with the db that holds the accnts that ppl use to play the game..

Exactly. There is no reason they HAVE to have it that way. If they wished, they could move to vb or whatever, and add in some extra functionality that ties the accounts to the forum account. If they can make a game, they can do this no problems.

well if someone spames here they dont actually have that account in NF. In the official forums, its easier to catch people and not be tricked if someone's name is exactly that in game. Of course, when you sign up, it could make 2 accounts, with the same name and password, in both here and the server for the game and we would never know. guess they never thought of that. or tie the forum account to their game account and make it show up also. wahtever it can be done.

im sure they have their reasons...cuz i refuse to believe they are so bored that they had to reinvent the wheel writing a forum program just for kicks.

I think that its a good idea to try to get TeamNF to move to a PHP board. They're highly configurable and the security can be more robust then just a HTML board.

On a side note, anyone know where I can find a cheap host? I'd like to start making my own sites (navy field related and more, maybe even my own small BB) but have no clue other then how to do some simple HTML. Thanks!

kitran, try out freewebs.com or ripway.com

if those arent good, do a search (http://google.com) and you will find something. There are tons of free hosts out there...

TeamNF basicall only needs to filter special characters and turn them into appropriate html entities, which is hardly reinventing the wheel :)
They probably only need add a few more checks behind the scenes aswell and the forum should be sound.

Other than that they use ASP because its alot easier for them to connect to the database with it.

They also need to make them more secure . . . I gave them a few major loop holes a month or so ago (ones no on hase found out, thank god) and repotered them. But nothing has been done. It seems as if they don't give 2 rats ass about shit.
